WGN-TV Meteorologist Richard Koeneman sends us this photo to remind us that winter snow isn't limited to the Midwest: The view in the image below is to the southwest from Fairview, N.C., looking toward Mt. Pisgah in the Blue Ridge Mountains of western North Carolina.

The view from Fairview, NC
The arctic chill of the last few days was not limited just to Chicago and the Midwest. Frigid air plunged southeast all the way to Florida, and it deposited up to five inches of snow in its transit across the Appalachians of western North Carolina. Pictured here is Mt. Pisgah (elevation 5,721 feet) in the Blue Ridge Range of western North Carolina on Monday morning.
The view is from the mountain community of Fairview, NC, southwestward toward Mt. Pisgah, 25 miles distant. The Monday morning low temperature at Fairview (elevation 3,650 feet) was a nippy -1ºF. At Asheville, five miles to the northwest, the overnight reading was +7º. a record low for the date.
