|

Blinding weekend snows hammer Green Bay and Door County areas of Wisconsin in weekend storm; southwest Wisconsin and southeast Minnesota at epicenter of mammoth 22-30" snowfall

Near white-out conditions at the height of this weekend's storm are depicted in these revealing photos taken just north of Green Bay, Wisconsin taken by meteorologist Cameron Moreland of NBC26 in Green Bay and relayed to us by Cameron's colleague meteorologist Steve Brown. Steve reports the snow began Friday night and fell through the weekend. By this morning, 14" was down with drifts measuring 3 feet. "It has been quite a storm! He tells us, "Over 5" fell overnight in DePere as the vort max (i.e. upper air disturbace) moved just east of the area. It was a very wet snow with pine tree branches weighted down to the ground and power outages reported in Door County. The three day snowfall total in Green Bay was 15 inches. It was our third biggest two day snowfall total since 1900 and biggest storm in ten years!!!"

Meantime, weekend snow tallies were trying phenomenal, reaching 29.5" farther southwest near La Crosse, Wisconsin at Winona, Minnesota. Elsewhere in that area, Ontario, WI was hit by 24.0", La Crosse proper measured 22.4", Decorah, Iowa was buried beneath 18.0" and Madison,
Wisconsin recorded 17.9"!

Many thanks to Cameron Moreland and Steve Brown for the wonderul photos!
