Tim's Weather World: Snow In All 50 States?

| | Comments (19)

Snow fell yesterday in the deep south blanketing Dallas with almost 8 inches.  Snow also fell in Jackson, Mississippi.  This southern stream storm is expected to produce snow in such unlikely areas as Pensacola, Florida & Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  By the end of the day, there could be snow on the ground in all 50 states.  Yes, even Hawaii has snow.  Don't forget that Mauna Loa is nearly 14,000 feet high and can get snow any time between August and May.

Speaking of snow, if you are like me, you are tired of shoveling your driveway only to find a big hump of snow at the end of it after the plows come through.

The Chicago Tribune has a helpful graphic with tips on how to avoid this.  No shoveling for us through next Thursday.  We might see a few flurries today and a little light snow late Sunday or Monday but little or no accumulation expected.

Sorry, but I'm in Hawaii and we have not had any snow on the mountains.

The statement made in your story about snow being present in all 50 states is incorrect. There is currently no snow on the summits in Hawaii, and there has not been any accumulating snow since mid-December.

Well, I have heard that Halealkala Mountain in Hawaii has snow on it.

I wrote that item on the blog and according to at least one source, there was snow in Hawaii. It was a small patch of snow but still snow.

But I reali dun think da world is going to end...start a new era maybe but the world is not ending.
That's not gonna happen till a thousand years later! Ok, I'm not sure bout that either but that's not the point! The world's not gonna end! Full stop!

You may have not intended to do so, but I think you have managed to express the state of mind that a lot of people are in. The sense of wanting to help, but not knowing how or where, is something a lot of us are going through.
