Record-level numbing cold is expected in Chicago today as high temperatures may fail to top the zero degree mark (previous record low max for Feb. 4: 0° in 1918). Strong west winds may drop wind chills to -35°or lower.
TIPS ON KEEPING YOUR HOME WARM:
• Let the warm rays of the sun invade your home in winter by opening curtains and blinds on the sunny side of your house. This will help warm your home during the day. Closing drapes and shades at night will cut down on heat loss.
• Make sure to keep vent spaces clean and clear, unblocked by furniture or draperies.
• Warm air which rises and collects at the ceiling can be brought back down by reversing the direction of your ceiling fan. A counter-clockwise rotation pushes warm air down into the room. (Remember to turn your fans back to a clockwise motion in the summer).
