Our CW-Related TV-Watching New Year's Resolutions: Post Yours!
As we head toward the new year, our thoughts naturally turn to resolutions -- you know, exercise regularly, quit staying up so late, no more trying to polish off the gingerbread house in one sitting. But we also have some CW-related resolutions – both for ourselves, and some hints for the folks who run our favorite shows. Take a look, and add your suggestions in the comments!
This year, we resolve to:
*Give reality shows more of a chance. Granted, we don’t have much choice in the matter, but we’ve got to get over our knee-jerk suspicion of the genre. Beauty and the Geek proves that reality shows can be done right. Now we pledge to start trying to find the best in shows like Crowned, Farmer Wants a Wife, and the next cycle of America’s Next Top Model.
*Where we can’t find the good, we resolve to revel in the bad. Hey, at least we can have fun with Crowned, right? (Dammit, we’ve already messed up resolution number one…)
*Take a breath before reacting to news of new characters, plot twists, or other developments in our favorite shows. Maybe – just maybe – it’s not the apocalypse every time Eric Kripke deviates from the formula we know and love.
*Give said characters, plot twists, or other developments at least three episodes before we write them off.
*After three episodes, realize that other people might have different views on the aforementioned characters, twists or developments, and just because they don’t agree, that doesn’t mean they’re wrong.
*Reevaluate our stands on some familiar characters. They have passionate fans, and those people can’t all be crazy -- unless it’s about John Winchester. (Argh! Did it again!)
*Look for the good among some of the more reviled people on the shows. Sure, Tyra seems to be a raging egomaniac now, but just think of how focused and down-to-earth she was during the Great Wall photo shoot!
*Admit that John Winchester does have his good points. He’s a good Hunter, he did his best, and when it comes to the boys, he was always… tall. (Sorry, we just can’t do it.)
This year, we hope the Powers that Be behind the network and the shows resolve to:
*Spend more time and money promoting the gems that they have. Why don’t we see billboards advertising The Game, Aliens in America, or Supernatural? Why aren’t there more ad spots for Smallville, Reaper and Everybody Hates Chris? Come on, folks – get those shows out there!
*Let the geniuses behind the shows work unimpeded. We’d hate to think that certain show creators felt pressured to add new characters because the network thought they would sell better…
*Go for class, not trash. We’ll take 1,000 Beauty and Geeks over even one more Pussycat Dolls, guilty pleasure though the PCDs may be.
*Make the shows make sense. We’re still reeling from the fact that Asia wasn’t actually obligated to join the PCDs after winning the competition. That makes no sense!
*Spread out the excitement over more than two or three episodes. A couple of shows (we’re looking at you, Smallville) tend to have huge, splashy, special-effects-laden jaw-droppers at the beginning and end of the season, and right before hiatuses. Then, they have several snooze-worthy episodes that seem like obvious passing. Think more Bizarro, less Fierce.
What about you? Any new CW-related resolutions to share? Post them in the comments!

Well, I'll busily defend John Winchester's many good (and completely ignored) atributes and stolidly insist that he did, in fact, love his sons dearly, and submit once again that he had lost his wife in a truly awful way, but no one will listen to me. Then again, I did once convince some haters to give Faramir a break, so you never know. ;)
As for resolutions, I resolve to continue to promote my favorite show on the CW (Supernatural) and do my part to make sure people know it exists -- I also resolve not to give Top Model another chance, but that's just me. ;)

Great post! I love the CW reality shows except for Beauty and the Geek. Can't get past that one. But Top Model and Crowned are terrific.
As for John Winchester, well, he did two things right - he fathered two good-looking, hard working sons!
