News Roundup: 90210 Spinoff, Supernatural, Aliens in America, BATG
We've seen a whole lot of CW-related news stories crossing our desk, and it's time to share. Dig in!
The Beverly Hills 90210 spin-off is building up its cast nicely. Despite early rumors that Hilary Duff would be taking the lead role, Zap2It.com now reports that "Degrassi: The Next Generation" actress Shenae Grimes will be playing the show's updated Brenda Walsh, Annie Mills.
But we're even more excited about this next bit of casting news, that comes to us courtesy of TVGuide's Michael Ausiello: Jessica Walters, who starred as the boozy matriarch in Arrested Development, will be talking the role of Tabitha Mills, the boozy, famous-in-the-70s actress grandmother! We love Jessica, and we can't wait to see how she tears into this role. It'll be great!
BuddyTV reports that Supernatural will be losing a recurring character: mercenary "acquisitions expert" Bela won't be coming back in season 4. We can't say we're surprised: She always seemed a bit spackled on to us, and she provoked a lot of ire among the fans.
We've heard a couple of shows may not be coming back at all. E!Online's Kristin is hearing that Aliens in America is over. We're bummed -- we think Aliens is one of the smartest, sharpest sitcoms on TV right now, and it never got the audience it deserved. We'll be sorry to see it go.
Finally, Variety is reporting that Beauty and the Geek will go on indefinite hiatus after this current season wraps. Ratings are WAY down and the show just doesn't have the buzz it once generated. We'll be sorry to no longer have an excuse to hang out with Mike Richards, but we're not surprised the show is slipping -- the initial "Beauties vs. Geeks" format was pretty jarring, and the casting seemed off for us this season. For some reason, they seemed to go for button-pushing Beauties and Geeks instead of people we seriously wanted to spend time with.
What do you think of all the news? Are you excited about the casting developments? Are you surprised Bela won't make the cut? Will you be sad to see Aliens in America and Beauty and the Geek go? Talk about it in the comments!

I hope The CW keeps Aliens In America. I really like that show because it tackles things that other shows can't touch. It wouldn't hurt to advertise the Sunday comedies more. I didn't know that last Sunday was a new post-strike episode until Monday.
Never was a fan of Bela on Supernatural. Hope Ruby stays. She has a mystery to her. Thank god we at least know that Supernatural is coming back this fall.
BATG fell off big time when they added the Guy beauty and the nerdy girl team. It should of been all or nothing. It would of been better if it was all Guy beauties and Geeky Girls. And the Beauty vs. Geeks thing this season was just horrible and turned me away from the show.
All in all, The CW sucks and I'll be ticked off if The Game doesn't come back this fall!!!

Ciao Bela! So glad to see her go. she was a cancer to the ratings and seemed to suck the intelligence out of Sam and Dean whenever she was around.
She was definitely shoe-horned into so many episodes that it became a joke amongst the fans.
I really like Lauren Cohan and thought she'd have been be better cast as Ruby.
