Gossip Girl Goes to The Hamptons!

It's been a long summer -- just long enough for the Upper East Siders to cause all kinds of mischief, from Europe to the Hamptons. Welcome back, Gossip Girl!

Since we last saw the gang, Nate's been hooking up hardcore with a thirtysomething married woman, Serena's been moping about Dan and dodging cute lifeguards, and Dan is Lonely Boy no longer -- he's turned into a major player who's so busy dating he's slacking off on his writing. Meanwhile, Chuck regrets his decision to leave Blair stranded in Tuscany, but Blair's exacted revenge in the form of a hot new boyfriend that she's brought back to the Hamptons. Oh, and Jenny's toiling away at fashion school, being verbally abused by her boringly one-note evil teacher. Got that?

For some reason, Nate and Serena feel the need to deceive everyone and pretend they're in a relationship (why no one is allowed to just be single in the Hamptons is beyond us). But the situation is no longer kosher with S when she catches a boxer-clad Nate racing for safety after a midafternoon rendezvous at his lover's house. Wait, he's fooling around with a married woman? She wants no part in the coverup, but Nate convinces her it's over. Really.

There's a big white party coming up in the Hamptons, and Jenny really wants to go, so she makes a dress for her evil instructor to wear, who verbally rips it to shreds. Ouch. Looks like Lil' J has to come crawling back to Eric for an invite, who takes her back as a friend (too quickly, in our opinion) and agrees to get her into the party.

Work isn't going well for either Humphrey -- Dan ends up getting fired from his gig working for an author because he can't produce any writing. He begs for another chance, but he's had too many already. Looks like Dan hasn't quite figured out the whole life/work balance thing.

Meanwhile, Chuck, who's making Eric research Blair's new man between croquet matches, seethes with barely-concealed rage when he has to watch Blair fake-fawn all over James at dinner. There's a battle of wits at the table, but Chuck excuses himself when he sees Blair's pin on James's sweater. That's right -- THE PIN, the one that she pinned on Nate's sweater last season, the one that supposedly signifies true love. When he calls her out on it and asks if she really loves the guy, she lies through her teeth and says yes. So Chuck's all, "See you at school," and leaves Blair, yet again, heartbroken... until he finds out that James didn't really go to Princeton like Blair said.

Blair's had enough of this game, so she goes to break up with James, but just then Chuck texts. He's coming to the white party after all. Never mind -- she needs a boyfriend again. Sounds like the dumping will have to wait awhile.

Dan has a strange encounter with Serena's formerly evil grandmother. Apparently her brush with death has her feeling charitable, and she wants Dan and Serena back together after seeing how miserable S has been all summer without him. So she lends Dan her husband's white suit and they prepare to hit the white party.

At the party, Nate's lover Catherine is furious to see him there with Serena. They walk past each other several times in efforts to make each other jealous, and it's working -- Nate is miserable. If only he could make Catherine feel as badly as he does right now. Serena has a brilliant idea -- let's make out! So they do, and of course, Dan chooses that moment to show up and be insufferably self-righteous in the way only Dan can be.

"There's always drama!" he explodes haughtily, and as usual, Serena can't explain herself fast enough, and Dan attacks her and makes her feel bad about herself, and we're reminded why this couple might need more time apart. Just when Serena looks like she's about to crawl into a hole, Dan gets another surprise -- the two girls he's been juggling are both at the party, and they're onto him. They both dump their drinks on his pristine whites, and Dan's shamed into actually being decent to Serena. They reconnect and agree to meet on the beach after the party, where they end up sharing a moment beneath the fireworks. Looks like these two are back on for now.

Jenny runs into her mean teacher at the party, and the woman's being as cruel as ever until Eric orchestrates a little introduction with socialite Tinsley Mortimer. Tinsley loves Jenny's dress and tells her so, making Jenny's teacher feel a little stupid.

Meanwhile, Catherine confesses to Nate that seeing him at the party with Serena is making her jealous... and it's a huge turn-on. They can't keep their hands off each other, and she gives him a note on a napkin telling him to meet her at the Mercer Hotel Friday at noon. So much for those two being over!

In the night's most heartwrenching storyline, Chuck and Blair continue to taunt each other because they're both too proud to admit how much they need each other. But Blair's new man is onto her, and he calls her out on using him to make Chuck jealous and puts her in her place. She apologizes, and then he confesses that he wasn't totally honest with her either -- he's actually a British lord named Marcus (!), but he was pretending to be a common American because, well, we're still not exactly sure... something about wanting people to be honest with him, because they never are when they find out he's a lord. Blair is newly turned on by his accent and the two decide to give it another try...

...until a waiting Chuck emerges and tells her not to leave with Marcus. "Why not?" she challenges him. "Give me one good reason to stay here with you." Chuck sputters that she doesn't want to go, that HE doesn't want her to go, but it's still not enough. Blair needs to hear those three little words, those eight letters, and then: "I'm yours." Chuck tries, but come on -- he's Chuck Bass, and he can't say it. Crestfallen, Blair tears herself away from their locked gaze and heads off with the Brit.

So what did you think of the premiere? Were you surprised by the couples who did and didn't get back together? What do you think of Nate's relationship? Will Dan and Serena actually make it work this time? And how much longer can Chuck and Blair torture each other? Let us know what you think in the comments!

Love Nate/Serena. Too bad they were fake kissing.

I loved the NateSerena kiss. If only they were not faking it. They should start dating. The worst part was the Dan/Serena reunion. I'm not a fan of Nate/Catherine but their hooking up is a catchy storyline. They should have more plots like that. Perhaps, Chuck hooking up with a much older woman or Blair hoking up with a much older guy.

Nate/Serena is my favourite couple. My favourite part in season 2 is the NateSerena kiss. I wish they really were kissing and not faking it. It's about time they started dating.Dan/Serena share zero chemistry. Nate/Blair is the worst combination.I can't believe they got back together in season 2. Blair/Chuck however are suited for each other.

OMG! That was the best season premere, besides OTH season 6 and 90210, that I've seen! But I was so sad at the Blair/Chcuk storyline! They are destined to be together! And was it just me or did Nate get hotter?!?

nyob, we just podcasted this episode and the OTH premiere earlier today. They'll go up within the next day or two. Hope you like them!

I was all for Nate and Blair because of the books but I'm loving Nate and Serena right about now! They need to lose Dan... I'm getting totally superficial but Chase was so fine! lol and the lord wasn't too bad either. Chuck and Blair have great chemistry but since I'm familiar with the books, I expect Chuck to come out and admit to being bi and leaving Blair for a guy, haha... but anyways, it was definitely the only premiere I was looking forward too and it totally lived up to expectations!

I love Dan/Serena!! They are super-cute and they have great chemistry(especially since they're dating in real life). But honestly, I was dying for Chuck to tell Blair he loves her. I think they're amazing together, and her and Marcus are so bleh!

was there a podcast for this episode??

Favorite and BEST part: Nate and Serena KISS!
They should get together.
I was SAD when Dan & Serena reunited.
I see ZERO chemistry.

SereNate FTW!

Chuck and Blair absolutely broke my heart.

God, I wish Serena and Nate would start dating. Like really dating. Not some stupid let's make out to make some thirty-year-old bitch jealous. I just know that Serena and Nate would be amazing couple. Nate understunds her and takes her as she is, unlike Dan does. Dan is a great guy, just not for Serena.

Honestly, my favorite part was the Nate/Serena fake kiss. But that wasn't an option, so I picked Blair/Chuck.

Nate and Serena, FTW!

Their kiss was amazing.
