Supernatural Podcast: "Route 666"

Listen Now

Sarah thinks this is the worst episode ever. Mia and I haven't seen enough episodes to say for sure, but it's definitely our least favorite of what we've seen so far.

Route 666

We're not fans of the script, the concept, or the guest actress. Was the sex scene enough to save this episode? Was Cassie compelling enough to be Dean's old love? Can we really accept a racist ghost truck as the villain... or at all?

Our answer to all of these questions is an emphatic "no!" We can't be alone in our "Route 666" dislike, so join us in the episode-bashing in the comments if you don't like this one, either. But we also know there are a few fans of this one out there -- some of you have already let us know in comments for past podcasts. And we want to hear from you, too (though you probably won't change our minds).

News Roundup: More Lindsey on One Tree Hill, Jared Padalecki's Movie Setback, And Ed Westwick: Poet?

Lots of CW news bits circulating this week:

*One Tree Hill's Lindsey will return for multiple episodes next season! TV Guide reports that even though Michaela McManus will also appear on SVU, she's made time to return to OTH for more than one episode. After last season's ups and downs with Lucas, we thought we'd seen the last of Lindsey, but it looks like she's back for more. Are you excited about this casting news?
More Lindsey on OTH!

*In other news, remember Jared Padalecki's Christmas movie? Lionsgate has quietly removed it from its big-screen offerings and changed it to a direct-to-video title. Ouch.

We figured something was wrong with the picture when it wasn't actually released last Christmas. We can't imagine there was any problem with the acting -- Jared starred alongside movie luminaries Peter O'Toole and Marcia Gay Harden -- so we're guessing something went terribly awry with the story, which is inspired by the life of Thomas Kinkade (the "Painter of Light") or the production, which Kinkade was heavily involved in. And while we weren't exactly salivating for the Thomas Kinkade Story, we are bummed for Jared -- this sounded like his chance for mainstream movie success. Maybe next time, Jared!

Supernatural Podcast: "Faith"

Listen Now

Whoa. We're pretty much blown away by "Faith's" lethal combination of heartwrenching decisions, surprising twists, and tearjerking moments. There wasn't a dry eye in the house after we watched this episode.

Dean's at death's door, which means the conflicting Winchester ideologies really come into play -- making us realize that Sam and Dean are not on the same page when it comes to life-and-death situations. In this podcast, we discuss Dean's self-esteem issues, the Reaper's creepy grin, Darla's role, and the painful realization that the brothers just can't save everyone, no matter how hard they try.

Supernatural Podcast: "Scarecrow"

Listen Now

We're starting to sound like broken records here, but seriously, another fantastic episode, possibly the best so far. "Scarecrow" explores what the brothers are like apart -- and shows us how much they need each other.

Scarecrow

In our latest podcast, Sarah, Mia and I love the boys' longing looks at their cell phones, can't get enough of Dean's awesome apple pie quote, and discuss the surprising Meg twist at the end of the episode.

Happy Birthday, Jim Beaver!

Happy birthday to one of our favorite men on the CW: Jim Beaver. Jim plays the inimitable Bobby Singer on Supernatural, and we can’t imagine anyone else playing the part.

Bobby, of course, is the trucker-cap-wearing voice of wisdom and father figure for the Winchester boys. Got a question about things that go bump in the night? You can bet Bobby either knows or can find the answer. His house is loaded with arcane tomes and mystical implements, while his front yard is loaded with car parts. How many people have the equipment necessary to exorcize and demon and repair a vintage Impala in close proximity?

And that’s just the start of why we love Bobby. He spikes his beer with holy water! He knows everyone who’s anyone in the Hunter universe! He can talk sense to Dean Winchester! He refuses to be a ditchable prom date! He’s just plain awesome!

You know who may be even cooler? Jim Beaver himself. He’s been acting for ages, appearing professionally in plays since 1972 and showing up on television starting in 1977. His guest credits run the gamut from Dallas to Matlock to Melrose Place, and he’s had recurring or starring roles in plenty more (Supernatural, Deadwood, John from Cincinati, the list goes on.)

But that’s just part of what Jim does. Did you also know that he’s an award-winning playwright? A respected magazine writer? A published biographer? A Vietnam vet? The man never rests!

We hope he takes some time off to celebrate his 58th birthday. Have a great day, Jim, and thanks for everything you bring to the show!

Leave your birthday wishes for Jim Beaver in the comments!

Supernatural Podcast: "Asylum"

Listen Now

Wow -- Sam is psychoanalyzed and subsequently traumatized! Meanwhile, Gavin's an idiot and we can't figure out why Cat puts up with him.

Home

In our latest podcast, Sarah, Mia and I wonder if the hunter medical plan includes psychiatric benefits (probably not) and can't believe evil!Sam pulls the trigger multiple times on Dean. Oh, and we couldn't be happier that we have the whole season on DVD so we don't have to wait a whole month to see "Scarecrow" like everyone else did (this episode aired before the midseason break).

In the second clip, Kripke talks about how the writers' strike affecting plotlines for Season Three. He also addresses a question about a possible love interest for Sam in the new season -- check it out!

Supernatural Podcast: "Home"

Listen Now

Ah, the return of Papa Winchester (albeit, in hiding)! The big reveal at the end of the episode has us wanting more... and wondering why he STILL won't see his sons.

Home

In our "Home" podcast, Sarah, Mia and I discuss what may be our favorite episode yet (rivaling "Skin"). First of all, it's really creepy. The cymbal monkey! The garbage disposal of evil! The episode also brings up some pressing questions for us, like who would buy their child a dancing monkey, anyway? And how does one sue a poltergeist?

Then we met Missouri, who puts Dean in his place before he even has a chance to make a snarky comment (we debate whether or not this is a good thing). We learned more about the Winchesters' troubling past. And what's going on with Sam? He's more perceptive than we realized...

Supernatural Podcast: "Bugs"

Listen Now

After lots of hype about this not-so-popular episode, we've watched "Bugs." And it's not that bad! Okay, the ending is kind of ridiculous (the night seemed to last about eight minutes) and the bugs aren't that scary -- even for Mia and me. But this episode had some parts to recommend it.

Dean battles the bugs

In our "Bugs" podcast, Sarah, Mia and I analyze the latest look into the brothers' psyches, the episode's merits -- humor! Sam drives! -- and the parts that just didn't work for us, like the bugs' confusing intentions. And of course, it wouldn't be a CW Source Supernatural podcast without some talk of John Winchester and Sarah's strong feelings about him (and the guy doesn't even appear in this episode!). Plus, we ponder the fate of the bee extras that were sacrificed for the cause.

Happy Birthday, Jared Padalecki!

Happy birthday, Jared Padalecki! One half of our favorite Hunting team turns 26 today - and yes, it's hard for us to believe that Jared Padalecki is so darn young. Happy birthday, Jared!

We've loved watching Jared show off his acting chops in Supernatural, marveling at the guy's talent as storylines got more complex and deep. Sam could have been a bit of a one-note character - his only goal was to find Jess' killer and then get back to his normal life. But Jared brought more layers to Sam then we originally could have imagined. We've seen Sam confront more horrors than we can count, including horrors within himself. He discovered he could never have the "normal" life he always craved, and he fought that fate, then embraced it. Along the way, he fought his father (while showing just how similar he and John could be), sparred with his brother (emotionally, physically and philosophically), and battled demons both literal and figurative. He even came back from the dead!

Supernatural Podcast: "Hook Man"

Listen Now

After watching the incredible "Skin" last week, we're a little disappointed by "Hook Man." The plot is questionable, and the damsel in distress fails to capture our attention (even though she does briefly capture Sam's!).

Hook Man

In our "Hook Man" podcast, Sarah, Mia and I wonder if we should start carrying around salt-filled shotguns. Also, could that girl have been batting her eyelashes at Sam any more quickly? Wait until your boyfriend's body gets cold, we say!

We discuss the not-that-scary hook man and the excessive exposition that weighed down the episode for us. There's also some talk about Sam's puppy dog eyes and their wondrous powers -- powers that thankfully so far have only been used for good.

CW Fashion Rules: Always Wear Lots of Layers -- No Matter How Hot Your Bod

The Winchesters are many things: brave Hunters, kick-ass fighters, snarky scene-stealers, tragic heroes… the list goes on. But are they fashion icons? We here at The CW Source say yes.

Winchester style

No, seriously, hear us out. The Winchesters are quintessential style leaders in that they have determined a signature look and they stick to it, no matter what the dictates of fashion say. According to Sam and Dean, the well-dressed man is wearing layers this season, and every other season. We're talking lots of layers: t-shirt, Henley, flannel shirt of hoodie, and jacket, at the very least. Round out the outfit with well-worn jeans and a few choice accessories (potentially mystical amulet, beer-opening ring, string bracelet, embellished laptop) and then add the finishing touch – copious weaponry. Finish off with the most important layer of all: A gorgeous, growling muscle car that oozes sex appeal. Voila!

Supernatural Podcast: "Skin"

Listen Now

We've been Kripke'd! Mia and I had no idea what that meant until we watched "Skin," definitely the most revolting episode we've seen so far -- but also one of the best, since it revealed so much about the psychology of the brothers.

Evil Dean has Sam captive

In our "Skin" podcast, Sarah, Mia and I discuss the abuse that poor Sam has to endure this week, speculate about what shapeshifter-as-Dean's rants tell us about Dean's innermost thoughts, and wonder what's next for the Winchesters now that their quest has become more complicated.

Supernatural Podcast: "Bloody Mary"

Listen Now

This episode wasn't quite as creepy as "Phantom Traveler," but we still enjoyed it.

Sam and Dean battle Bloody Mary

The Bloody Mary legend gets us reminiscing about our own preteen sleepover horror stories (thankfully, no eye-gouging -- just a frozen bra or two). We're intrigued by the Winchesters' secrets: Sam's we know, but Dean's is still a mystery. And Sam's many layers have us wondering what else lies beneath the surface...

Supernatural Podcast: "Phantom Traveler"

Listen Now

Poor Mia! She's already afraid of flying, and now we've subjected her to the airborne exorcism of "Phantom Traveler."

Dean, demon-hunting at 40,000 feet

We like seeing the brothers' dynamic change this week -- we saw Dean's vulnerable side and watched Sam take control and calm him down. But there's so much more to discuss: the many types of demons (Mia and I are still learning), the trials and tribulations of getting holy water in your carry-on, and our take on the guys sporting suits for the first time. Plus, we're wondering what the elusive John Winchester is up to...

Supernatural News: Kripke Makes a Deal, Katie Cassidy Out, Jared Loses His Undies

Jared in Sydney -- more pics after the jump!A lot has been happening on the Supernatural front. First up, Variety reports that Supernatural’s Fearless Leader/Malevolent Genius Eric Kripke has signed a two-year deal with Warner Bros. TV. In addition to running Supernatural, Kripke will develop new projects for the company. Potential projects? Well, Kripke has said he wanted to do a sort of Supernatural prequel set in the Old West and exploring some of the show’s mythology (like the origin of the Colt, we assume?)

But that’s not all: TV Guide broke the news that Katie Cassidy is gone from the show. “She’s great, but this was unfortunately a financial decision — purely budgetary, because creatively she was terrific," Kripke said. "I have nothing but great affection for Katie, and she was great for the show. It was a very difficult business decision about the realities we are in."

We can’t say we’re totally surprised – after all, Katie had some serious detractors, and Ruby did seem pretty darn dead in the season finale (what with being possessed, then dispossessed by Lilith.) Still, it’s a bit of a shock, since Ruby seemed to be an important character. What do you think about the news?

A hilarious Jared story and great Jared pics from Sydney after the jump, so keep reading!

Supernatural Podcast: "Dead in The Water"

There's an overwhelming sense of dread in this episode, and we ended up pretty freaked out by the end (it didn't help that the lights in the podcasting room flickered ominously while we were watching the scary bathtub scene).

The brothers

In our Supernatural podcast for "Dead in The Water," Sarah, Mia and I argue about the appropriate way to bathe, love how the brothers balance each other out ("Thanks, college boy!"), and wonder whether or not Wisconsin is inherently creepy. Wee also address the debate in last week's comments.
