Making connections from home

A quick update-- my lovely wife just sent me some more of your posts. Thank you for them. I found the timing of this one pretty interesting:

Tom,

Thank you for doing this. I can't tell you what a joy it is to have our soldiers being shown in such a wonderful light. These soldiers truly are doing a good thing, regardless anyone's opinion of this war.

You have traveled a bit with my husband SGM Jason Burris. We are so proud of Jason and the rest of the Illinois troops. As the NCO IG, Jason is dedicated to seeing this mission through and helping all of the soldiers there. We as a state should feel honored to have people like these soldiers living amongst us. They are willing to give up everything at a moments notice at home and abroad.

Please stay safe, and know our hearts are traveling along with you. Don't forget, Illinois is a big state and yes, there are Cardinal fans that watch WGN too!

I put Annette's husband Jason on a chopper out of Camp Phoenix not 15 minutes ago. He's doing great. He showed me some pictures of their son and daughter as we talked about home. Had a minute to check email and wanted Annette to know he got on that Chinook with a big smile on his face.

Have to go. Keep the comments coming-

How about the timing on this one: Just got wind of what you're doing out there. I've been reading your blog all morning. What an amazing thing you're doing out there for all of us back home. It's great to get the coverage, the photos, the comments; everything!

Say, if you're anywhere near my "Sweetest of Hearts", would you tell him how awesome I think he is. I'm talking about the General.

Much gratitude and thanks to all.

Wow, it's so neat to see what the other families have to say about the situation too. Thanks to your blogging, all of us are able to stay in touch with things there, though for some it seems to be a little more personal concidering you're actually spending time with their loved ones there. I can't tell you how much that blows me away, by the way, having a connection like that! I look forward to hearing all of your stories when you do get home. It'll be something unforgettable, for sure! Continue to keep it up and stay safe! And please tell all our soldiers how proud we are and how much we miss them and can't wait for their return!

Thank you very much. He's got a great smile!

Tom,
My son is an MP with the PSD at Camp Phoenix. Tell him his mom & dad says HI from Bloomington!!!

Just wanted to say thanks for all your reports and blogs. I know from watching you on WGN that you are a very detail-oriented person and it's nice to get some of the details of what is going on over there that we would not normally hear. Our son is at Camp Phoenix and we are so proud of his selfless service and the effort he and all the troops put forth every day to help the Afghan people and to protect our country. Seeing your pictures and videos helps us to feel a little closer to him. Please let them all know they are in our prayers and we look forward to their safe return. Thank you, Tom!

I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THANK-YOU FOR THE TIME YOU ARE SPENDING WITH OUR LOVED ONES. I WAS ABLE TO SEE A FEW PICTURES OF MY DAUGHTER WITH YOU. IT SURE BROUGHT A SMILE TO MY FACE. THANKS AGAIN AND STAY SAFE TO YOU AND EVERYONE THERE WORKING SO HARD FOR ALL OF US.

I want to thanks tom as well and everyone else who commented here! I am on camp phoenix and steve chasteen i will tell SPC chasteen when i see him! Thanks again to everyone!!

Thank you for bringing a smile to my son's face. Spc. Patrick O'Grady said you interviewed him last Sunday. He had just returned from a 13 day mission, and he said he was tired and would message me the next day. That is the day you interviewed him, and he got a kick out of having been interviewed by you. He is stationed at Port Ghazni and is from the Chicago/Cottage Grove Armory. Thanks to you, Mr. Negovan, to my son, and all the troops serving this great country! ~Lydia O'Grady
