Game Notes For Wed @ T-Wolves

* The Timberwolves have won eight of their last nine home games against the Bulls.
* The Bulls have gone without back-to-back wins since December 28-30. Amazingly, a win tonight would match their longest win streak of the season (two games, accomplished three times).
* Four of the Timberwolves last six games have been decided by three points or less.
* The Bulls remain the league’s only winless team (0-17) when allowing at least 100 points this season.
* Al Jefferson has tallied at least 20 points and 12 rebounds in six of his last seven games.
* Kirk Hinrich has averaged 27.5 points over his last four games, after going 43 straight games without scoring 27+ points once.

The Boylan Effect

The problem for Jim Boylan since taking over as Bulls Head Coach has been too many injuries.
The injuries have tied his hands when it comes to the rotation. Since Jim has been head coach Kirk HInrich, Luol Deng and now Chris Duhon have all been injured. What Boylin has done is given the guys an idea that they are going to get in and be ready whenever that comes up.

Pistons Still Firing on all Cylinders?

I think Detroit is still strong enough to get to the Eastern Conference Finals, but I don't see them beating Boston. The Pistons have to get more off their bench. In their loss on Friday to Sacramento AT home, IN the Palace, they had 5 points and 2 rebounds off their bench. Now, they did make a trade in picking up Primoz Brezec and Walter Herrmann from Charlotte, and while they are not in the rotation right now, perhaps Flip Saunders is thinking toward the play-offs with the length of Brezec and Herrmann's know-how around the perimeter.

The Bulls have done very well against Detroit this season. The Pistons like to play a half-court game. If the Bulls can get them into a little upcourt, up-tempo game...get them out of their rhythm and get some easy scores....they might be able to sneak off with another victory.
Detroit likes to stay in the half-court and that's why they are one of the better defenses. I think the Bulls just happen to match up better personnel-wise.

Game Notes For Friday vs. Warriors

* Golden State has not won in Chicago since February 26, 2001; since then, the Warriors are 0-6 in the Windy City.
* The Warriors have won three of their last four games overall, but have lost three of their last four on the road. They average 7.3 points per game more at home than on the road, which is the second-biggest differential in the league.
* The Bulls have lost five of their last seven home games. They have already lost 10 games at home this year after losing just 10 all last season.
* In his last 12 games versus Chicago, Stephen Jackson has averaged 24.1 points per game and shot .406 from three-point territory (26/64).
* Ben Gordon is shooting .910 from the foul line this season. He is attempting to become only the second Bull to make 90% of his free throws in a season (Ricky Sobers, 1980-81, .935 – minimum 125 attempts).

Is It Thabo's Time?

With Kirk Hinrich unavailable for Tuesday's game against the Magic due to a sore back, this is a great opportunity for Thabo Sefolosha, who gets the start. He's been playing better recently. His offense has been such that he's at least allowing the game to come to him and not trying to create something that's not there.

His role is not to score a lot of points anyway - his role is to defend. I was really impressed with the job he did in the 2nd half on Joe Johnson who had 25 points at halftime. Thabo took him most of the 2nd half. He was solid, he worked Johnson hard. He's a good defender; he's got good length.

Injuries sometimes present opportunities and this is his opporutnity to step in and show this coaching staff that he deserves more minutes and become a regular part of the backcourt rotation.

Game Notes For Tuesday @ Magic

* Chicago has posted victories in six of their last seven trips to Orlando. In their last trip to Orlando (March, 8, 2007), the Bulls held the Magic to just 76 points – their fewest points scored at home all season long.
* The Magic have lost six of their last eight home games, with the last two by a combined three points.
* The Bulls have gone 0-14 this season when allowing their opponents to score at least 100 points.
* The Magic have attempted 274 more 3-pointers than their opponents have (979-705) this season.
* Dwight Howard is currently averaging 22.5 points and 15.2 rebounds per game. The last person to average at least 20 points and 15 boards per game was 25 years ago -- Moses Malone in 1982-83.
* In their first meeting this season (December 31), Ben Gordon’s 39 points (16-27 FG, 3-5 3FG, 4-4 FT) off the bench marked an NBA season-high in points for a reserve player. This was later tied by Kevin Martin against the Mavericks on January 14.

Schedule Favors the Bulls

After a couple of tough losses at home to Orlando and Portland, the Bulls play Sacramento tonight, New York on Tuesday, then road games at Philadelphia, Atlanta, Orlando and Miami...with some significant time off in between games next week.
You want to take advantage of these games since the Bulls have not won more than two in a row all season. They really need to put together a streak of 4,5 or 6 games and they need Luol Deng to do that.
They are hoping to get through tonight and the Knicks game without Deng. If so, Luol will not have played in over a week, so that will give him time to respond to treatment for his injury.

Peaks and Valleys on "O"

Fans often wonder why players in the NBA can look so great shooting the ball one stretch, and then go into a slump that lasts over multiple games or weeks. An "ailment" the Bulls have been afflicted with at different points this season. If I knew how to prevent poor shooting streaks, I'd still be coaching. What I will tell you, is that shooting slumps are just part of the game. The offensive game is often one of peaks and valleys. The key is to not let the struggles on the offensive end, affect how you play defense, for one. The other most important thing is to keep shooting it!

There's really no coaching that can get a player out of a slump. By the time a player reaches the NBA, his mechanics aren't the issue. It's usually about confidence, and shot selection. Some players will stay after practice a little longer when they are not hitting their shots, but you really can't duplicate what a shooter faces in a game. The more you struggle, the more shot-selection needs to be stressed.

And, again... I stress: you gotta keep shooting! A guy like Andres Nocioni, who has struggled from the field lately, is going to try to shoot his way out of it. Noce is funny... he won't pass up shots whether he's makin' or missin'! He's been around long enough to know he's not going to struggle forever!

Another important thing is to not change or tinker with your shot... that's how a prolonged slump happens and becomes worse. There's an old saying amongst shooters: 'If they're going in I'm Hot, and if I'm missing, I'm due.'

Keep shooting it boys!
